La Tierra Community School is a free K-8 public charter school located in Prescott, Arizona. We opened our doors for the first time in 2010 and have been growing ever since!
Our school model was inspired by Expeditionary Learning and we continue to utilize EL protocols in our daily practice. Expeditionary Learning takes an active approach to learning and emphasizes high achievement through active learning, character growth and teamwork.
Conscious Discipline is our comprehensive classroom management and character development program. We focus on 8 main character traits for student success. These traits include Courage, Respect, Creativity, Integrity, Compassion, Responsibility, Empathy and Perseverance.
Because La Tierra Community School is an expeditionary learning inspired school, we prioritize experiences where our students live their lessons, and that often takes us outside the classroom. The field work and field trips we create are specifically designed to connect our classroom learning to the world around us. And once a year, our expeditionary learning model inspires us to go even farther and take a camping trip!
LTCS is one of the few schools who incorporates camping into our curriculum for every student at every age. From kindergarteners to eighth graders, our students have the fun of planning and participating in a spring camping trip with their entire class.
Working together to nurture the whole child and inspire passion for learning.
La Tierra Community School provides an experiential approach to learning and values respect for diversity, the whole child, and a commitment to social and environmental justice. Our program uses natural and cultural resources to foster relevant connections for children through learning expeditions. We value children’s sense of curiosity and discovery; their ability to think critically, reflect upon their world, and promote positive change in their community.
